The whole crew here is wonderful. I don't know who chooses the employees, but they have got a real knack for getting really good people. Now, the food. The pizza is what I dream of. A light thin wood fired flavor, crispy crust with the best quality toppings that you can get. This place is a winner anyway you look at it.
Amazing pizza and staff was very helpful and friendly!!! Will definitely be back!!! Had the Fourmaggio and added chicken.
Great service. Great atmosphere. Great food. Sophia is amazing! This time we had the original and fourmaggio. The crush was perfectly crispy. (Didn't capture pictures) Can't wait to return to try more pizza variations.
3.5 stars rounded up The food was amazing, server was very friendly, but the kitchen needs work on their timing. We got our appetizer, then not even a minute after my husband got his meatball sub. So his sandwich just sat while we eat the crab artichoke dip. Several minutes later the pizza my kids ordered came out. It was still about 5 more minute before my order of pasta came out. Timing should be better where the whole table gets their order close together and you have time to eat your appetizer. The food was absolutely amazing!! We love the style of the pizza, and will be back to try some of the other pizzas. My Carbonara was perfect and I highly recommend this dish. The cannolis were not great, wouldn't order it again, but the filled donut was delicious! We were told they rotate the fillings. Today was chocolate filled on top of banana cream and caramel. YUM!! Our server was very friendly and apologized that the food came out in odd intervals. Hopefully, this will be worked out with time.
Okay, pizza review time. Hahalololol. Ahem. These are the leftovers & spent the night in the fridge, so the pictures don't do the pizza any justice. However, it's safe to say that the first true New Haven style pizza joint in DFW is off to a great start. Of the two pizzas, the Original was preferred. Not that the Pepperoni wasn't good, but the grease from the pepperoni soaked a bit too much into the crust. It made the crunch, which is flat out great on the Original, not as consistent with the Pepperoni. Next trip: we rock the Original and a Marg. Give me all that tasty thin crunch. There are some reviews about the service, but we had zero issues. Everyone was nice, attentive, & the pizzas came out in maybe 15 minutes. Not a problem there at all! It's right on the newly transformed Garland town square, so there is a small town, yet busy vibe happening around it. The patio is a bit odd as it's next to a huge intersection, but it's in the shade in the evening which is clutch. Overall? Fortunate Son is worth a trip to Garland to spend the evening hanging out.
7.8 on the pizza scale. Vibes are a 10. This place is borderline, really, really good. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. We opted to just try the basic cheese to really get a feel for this place. It came out promptly. It was a bit too hot to eat without the good ol' roof burn. At first bite, the sauce is sweet and fresh. The hint of Romano cheese contrasts well with the creamy mozzarella, and it adds a nice salty note you don't get normally from new haven style. The crust was one aspect that could have elevated this pizza. It seemed like it was a high moisture neopolitan style dough as the crust never had a crispness even though it was cooked well. The ovens were gas, which just adds moisture to the cooking, and I think it is what made the pizza a bit loose overall. In short, we will be back as this is the best pizza in the area. Can't wait to try a more elaborate pizza and some of the other menu items.
We were finally able to stop by and eat at Fortunate Son a few weeks ago after trying to come on a Friday night and giving up after being told the wait was 2.5 hours. My husband and I + one friend stopped by before an event in downtown Dallas on a Wednesday around 5:30PM and it was much less busy; there were certainly still plenty of people dining in, but we were able to get seated immediately and there was enough room that I imagine people didn't have to wait. I definitely recommend swinging by for dinner on off peak days to avoid running into the same situation as our initial attempt. At the entrance I was greeted by a host who led me to an outdoor patio seating area; my husband was still parking the car and our friend was running a bit late, but they happily let me get seated first. Ty, our server, came by to bring water cups and ask if I wanted something to drink; I was deciding between two cocktails and picked "Are We Doing This?" because he said it was the sweeter of the two, and I enjoyed it a lot! Very fruity and flavorful, as advertised. The three of us split two "regular" (their 18" pie) pizzas. I've loved clam pizza ever since I tried it in New Haven a few years ago and I'm really happy to have a place that serves such an excellent version of it much closer to home. Our second choice was the potato pancetta pizza because the toppings were so interesting and it may have even beat the clam out for favorite of the night. Both pizzas had delightfully crisp crust that didn't get soggy from the toppings, and the toppings themselves were super fresh and flavorful. I only wish the clam pizza came with a little more clam, but the garlicky seafood flavor definitely suffused the entire pizza despite that tiny nitpick. We were stuffed at the end and still had four slices leftover, which our friend took with him. I don't find myself in downtown Garland too often since it's pretty out of the way for us, but I know where I'm going the next time I'm craving New Haven style pizza. Ambience in the outdoor section was super nice and all the servers that came by to check on us were very helpful. Can't wait to return!
